Women’s apparel retailer to occupy 6,000-square-foot space in the Flatiron District
NEW YORK, NY — Robert K. Futterman & Associates, LLC (RKF), the nation’s leading independent real estate firm specializing in retail leasing, investment sales and consulting services has arranged a lease for women’s fashion retailer Free People at 79 Fifth Avenue.
RKF Chairman & CEO Robert K. Futterman and Director Beth Rosen, together with Wade McDevitt and Lorraine Adney of the McDevitt Company, represented the tenant.
Located in the Flatiron District between 15th and 16th Streets, Free People will occupy 2,000 square feet on the ground floor and 4,000 square feet on the lower level of 79 Fifth Avenue. This will be the retailer’s first Manhattan location, and is slated to open in December 2007.
The market is home to some of the world’s leading national fashion, big-box, specialty and home furnishings retailers, including Home Depot, Jo Malone, H&M, Ann Taylor, Arden B., Coach, Restoration Hardware, Best Buy, and Kate Spade (coming soon). The area generates tremendous pedestrian traffic due to the area’s tenants and high-end restaurants such as Eleven Madison Park, Tabla, Craft Bar, Bolo, Gramercy Tavern, Mesa Grill and BLT Prime.
New residential developments, office conversions and boutique hotels in the Flatiron District have contributed to the popularity of the market helping to attract young affluent residents and creating a true 24-hour, seven-day retail market.
Free People, a division of Urban Outfitters, Inc. targets young free-spirited women in their 20s. The retailer currently has eleven other stores in eight different states, including New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. Retail store design varies from location to location - some with an eclectic loft apartment feel, others a greenhouse style and others with a more modern sensibility.
The country’s leading independent real estate firm specializing in retail leasing and investment sales, Robert K. Futterman & Associates (RKF) serves a broad spectrum of domestic and global clients in services ranging from national tenant and owner representation to advisory, consulting and disposition. With over $7.4 billion in aggregate real estate transactions to its credit, RKF has been responsible for identifying scores of real estate opportunities throughout the United States for leading American and international chains, retailers, developers and institutional clients.
