Fashion and Home Decor Retailer Signs 16,163-sf Lease at Chelsea Market

New York, NY – Robert K. Futterman & Associates (RKF), the nation’s leading independent real estate firm specializing in retail leasing, investment sales and consulting services, is pleased to announce that Anthropologie has leased 16,163 square feet at Chelsea Market aka 75 Ninth Avenue, at the corner of 15th Street and Ninth Avenue.

RKF Chairman & CEO Robert K. Futterman and Executive Vice President Karen Bellantoni represented building ownership Jamestown Chelsea Market, LP. The McDevitt Company CEO Wade McDevitt and Stephen Plourde represented Anthropologie.

Anthropologie will occupy 8,500 square feet on the Ground Floor, 5,838 square feet in the Lower Level for selling and an additional 1,825 square feet of storage space in the Lower Level. The retailer is expected to open Spring 2010.

"We targeted a distinctive and select group of retailers that would be most suitable to maintaining the authentic flavor of the market," commented Futterman. "Anthropologie's eclectic and innovative style is the perfect complement to Chelsea Market's Downtown industrial interior. Anthropologie joins an impressive tenant roster within Chelsea Market and throughout the Meatpacking District and West Chelsea, further solidifying the area as one of Manhattan's most desirable destinations for retail."

McDevitt noted, “As Anthropologie’s exclusive international representative, we are extraordinarily selective about where we position their dynamic stores. Sites must be located in markets that embody the ethos of the sophisticated, stylish, and worldly customer the brand attracts, and preferably be in buildings with architectural character and quality. The Chelsea Market represents, “The Perfect Storm” of these variables.”

Chelsea Market has undergone a redesign and revitalization that aspires to maintain the character and integrity of the original environment. Ownership installed a new facade and all glass storefront with oversized windows that will provide Anthropologie with tremendous visibility on the street, in addition to the frontage along Chelsea Market's Interior Concourse.

While Chelsea Market has its roots in the wholesale baked goods business, this European-style indoor marketplace has gradually evolved into a fresh-food retail venue like no other in Manhattan. The market comprises one million square feet of space through interconnected buildings and boasts the city’s longest running interior walkway along the original 800-foot concourse. Today, its 225,000 square feet of ground floor and lower level retail and restaurant space is an epicurean wonder, with retailers including Buddakan, 202 Nicole Farhi, Morimoto, Sarabeth's, Dickson's Farmstand, Amy's Bread, The Lobster Place and Fat Witch Bakery.

The approximately one million square feet of office space within Chelsea Market is home to office and studio space for innovative companies such as Google, MLB.com, EMI Music Publishing and The Food Network.

The surrounding neighborhood features designer shops, exclusive hotels, acclaimed dining venues, new luxury condominium buildings and The High Line Park, which passes above Chelsea Market. Anthropologie joins an impressive roster of retailer's with flagship locations in the neighborhood including Apple, Hugo Boss, Moschino, Diane von Furstenberg, Stella McCartney and Design Within Reach.
