Asian-Inspired Quick Service Restaurant Chain Founded by Pret A Manger’s Julian Metcalfe to Open at 530 Seventh Avenue
NEW YORK —RKF, the country’s leading independent real estate firm specializing in retail leasing, investment sales and consulting services, announced today that it has arranged a 3,200-square-foot lease for Itsu, the quick service restaurant chain known for bringing healthy food, innovation and quality to the high street while celebrating the flavors of the Far East with its ‘Eat Beautiful’ philosophy. A pioneering brand, Itsu focuses on light, healthy and nutritious food, and its menu offers freshly made hot brown rice & noodle dishes, authentic sushi and low carb salads. Founded by Julian Metcalfe in London in 1997, Itsu currently operates more than 70 locations in England. 530 Seventh Avenue will be the brand’s first restaurant outside of the UK and will open in 2018.
RKF Vice Chairman Ariel Schuster, Managing Director Jackie Totolo, and Director Michael Cohen represented Itsu, while the landlord, Savitt Partners, was represented in-house.
Itsu’s space features 2,100 square feet on the ground floor and 1,100 square feet on the lower level of 530 Seventh Avenue, which is a 490,000-SF Art Deco building situated between 38th and 39th Streets in the heart of Midtown’s Fashion District. Today, the market comprises a unique mix of fashion companies, TAMI office tenants, hotels, and retail, food and entertainment offerings. Nearby food retailers include Pret A Manger, The Skylark, Café Grumpy, Baked by Melissa, Gregory’s Coffee, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Starbucks.
“When I started Itsu, a few years after having co-founded Pret A Manger, I had a very clear vision of what I wanted the brand to be: innovative, light & good for you – an Asian-inspired quick service restaurant that’s anything but boring!!” explained Metcalfe. “Opening a location in New York City has been a dream of mine for over a decade. Today, this dream is taking shape in the Fashion District, the first of hopefully many Itsu restaurants.” Metcalfe supervised the transaction along with Ben Fenton, Itsu’s SVP and Lucy McCarthy, its VP international innovation.
“530 Seventh Avenue is ideal for Itsu’s first U.S. location,” said RKF’s Schuster. “The brand will no doubt attract the healthy food enthusiasts in the Fashion District market, as well tourists and shoppers from nearby Times Square and Herald Square.”
The early pioneers of Pret are the creative forces behind itsu. Years of listening to customers persuaded them to build a new type of food place altogether. Welcome to the fast food of the future: it’s beautiful, good for you and delicious. Their eat beautiful menu celebrates the amazing flavours of the Far East; high in nutrients yet refreshingly low in calories and saturated fat. Protein packed low carb salads, fields of crunchy vegetables, hot chicken noodle soups, brown rice potsu, freshly made sushi as well as beautysmoothies too. Sixty four delicious dishes all freshly prepared in each itsu every day.
