One of Canada’s Largest Contemporary Galleries Chooses 190 Richmond Street East
as its New Home
TORONTO – RKF, North America’s leading independent real estate firm specializing in retail leasing, investment sales and consulting services, announced today that it has arranged a lease for 5,338-square-feet of space on the ground floor of190 Richmond Street East, helping usher in a new era for the formerly industrial neighborhood. The gallery is relocating from a space on King Street West.
Steven Alikakos, RKF Canada President, represented the landlords, Nick and Sophie Pasalis, which closed in late 2017.
Located on the northwest corner at George Street, 190 Richmond Street East is also the home of exclusive men’s clothier Haven, from Japan, globally known for its edgy streetwear and its magazine, “Intelligence,” that feature material all about the Japanese streetwear scene.
“By being together, Nicholas Metivier Gallery and Haven will create an interesting dynamic of mutual support,” explained Alikakos. “Metivier Gallery will draw discerning art collectors to the Richmond East neighborhood, formerly the home of printing shops and movie studios. These same people will find Haven a draw.”
Founded in 2004 by Nicholas Metivier, the gallery represents artists of different generations and handles work in all mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, drawing and printmaking. It will occupy the ground floor, formerly an industrial space that boasts high ceilings and expansive concrete floors. The move nearly doubles the space the gallery currently occupies on King Street West. The gallery, a leading purveyor of contemporary artworks from Canadian, American and European artists, will open in the spring.
“We are thrilled about our plans to open at 190 Richmond Street East,” said Metivier. “We not only will have the space our growing gallery requires, but also one that truly is a blank canvas where we will create the ideal setting for showcasing brilliant artworks in all formats, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, mixed-media creations, video and film.”
